"what a game"

I guess it has become very rare to be supporting our cricket team and then have the adrenaline pumping as high as it did whatching them playing against aussies.. i honestly did not give them much of a chance to come thru the game... i was kinda predciting a demolishing job from the aussie front... but the way indians played...simply mindblowing.... even after the 17th over australia had to get 30 odd runs from 3 overs which was very much possible... but the way harbhajan bowled that over and backed up by R.P. Singh in the next.. i simply could not believe the way the team was playing... absolutely amazing... having witnessed many a games slipping away when winning was a more likely result..coming back from difficult situations to win the game..1st against the pakis and then against the aussies it was simply superb to watch..hats off to the boys for playing and making me proud

P.S.---- inspite of all his eccentricites i just love sreesanth.. it takes some nerve to do what he did when he got hayden out..staring down that bear of a guy... man that was awesome...

Most of you -- most everyone in this room, I dare say, have the qualities -- or possess the qualities -- to be successful. But, unfortunately, gentlemen, it rests not upon ability, not upon capacity, but upon our willingness to use those qualities. It also must be based upon truth and upon character, because there must be truth in its purpose and will power in its character.

Success rests not upon ability but upon commitment, upon loyalty, and upon pride. Not all educated men are successful. Going to college helps. But a man really can receive his inspiration from any place -- he can receive his inspiration from the Fulton Fish Market if he so desires. And if a man studies his past, and if he studies his country, and if he studies his ancestors, and if he studies the lessons of history, he is educated.

None of us is born equal, in spite of everything they say about it -- we are born only in certain inalienable rights. But we are born rather unequal. However, I want to say that the talented are no more responsible for their birthright than the underprivileged are and the measurement of each man should be what each does and I want to say that it is becoming increasingly difficult to be tolerant of a society who has sympathy only for the misfit, only for the maladjusted, only for the criminal, and only for the loser..

But the most important element in the character make-up of a man who is successful is that of mental toughness, and I might say the most difficult one to explain. Because mental toughness is so many things. For example, it is humility. Simplicity is a form of humility and simplicity is the sign of true greatness. Meekness is a sign of humility, and meekness is a sign of true strength.

Mental toughness is spartanism with its qualities of sacrifice and self-denial, also the qualities of dedication and fearlessness and love. Not the love that you have for your wife or your wife may have for you. The love I am speaking of is loyalty, which is the greatest of loves. Teamwork, which is a form of love, and the love that one man has for another is respecting the dignity of another man. The love I speak of is not detraction. You show me a man who speaks ill of another and I'll show you a man who is only temporarily successful. Or one who is not charitable. Or one who is not loyal.

Mental toughness is also the perfectly disciplined will and the will, gentleman, is the character in action. The great hope of society has to be the character in action and we are never going to create a good society, much less a great one, until we once more recognize and respect individual excellence. Because if we would create something, we must be something, because character is the direct result of mental attitude and you cannot copy someone else's particular character qualifications but must develop your own according to your own particular personality.

The difference between a successful man and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in lack of will because the character rather than the education is man's greatest need and man's greatest safeguard because the character is higher than the intellect. The difference between men is in energy, in the strong will, in a singleness of purpose and an invincible determination.

But the great difference is in sacrifice, in self-denial, in love and loyalty, in fearlessness and in humility, in the pursuit of excellence and in the perfectly disciplined will, because this is not only the difference between men, this is the difference between great men and little men.

Jim Valvano

Jim Valvano was a well known and respected college basketball coach. He was most known for leading NC State to the national title in 1983. After his retirement from coaching, he became an incredible sportscaster. He, teamed with Dick Vitale, made for some of the best color commentary during a basketball game

As Jim battled cancer, he attended the 1993 ESPY show to accept a lifetime acheivement award for his coaching and broadcasting career. This is where he made the famous “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up” speech. It’s truly one of the most touching speeches ever. Not only because he was so loved, but because he was losing his battle with cancer, and everyone in the room knew it. He passed away at the age of 47.

Life brings upon oneself stuff that we cannot fathom... i knew i shuld have gone back to kerala when i could and visit my grandmother..before it was too late...then i did not..only to realize now what a mistake it was.. that the hand that straddled me young..wont be around anymore...it is only when somebody goes away from ur life that the memories come back flooding...i wasn't the best of the grandsons... but i loved u. .. even worse is the fact that i am not there now..sitting some 1000 odd kms... molesting a keyboard

15th August

Today my country turns 60... happy independence day to one and all...this was the day scores of freedom fighters sacrificed everything they had... let us take a moment and remember the people who gave it all so that we live free life

“Freedom in the mind, faith in the words, pride in our hearts and memories in our souls...." this is some part of a message that I just received... I salute my nation on the 60th independence day.. Trust me I can’t be more proud of my country

15th august is the day we r exhorted to unite and redouble our efforts to take on the world... I mean with the qualities we have, the world is a sitting duck waiting for us to invade and make it our own.. today is the day that our wise old men address the nation and make big grand statements about how wonderfully our nation is doing... god handpicked them so that we always know that what we could probably have had, had they been not in the way

Yes the economy is booming, but what does it mean to guy who works his ass out everyday and comes back home leading a hand to mouth existence... does he get his share of the boom... hardly..rich people get richer, the poor poorer... and the divide increases... not that I am doing anything to change it... but the problem is that it is only on days like this that I even think about stuff and want to do something.. Don’t really know what I would but sure I do...

August 16th and I am running ... running behind my life desperately trying to catch on.. Not sparing a thought for the sacrifices that went in to shape the country.. Somebody dying on the border has become a commonplace.. Why should I be bothered.. I mean even the Times of India does not give it anymore space than a motley column in the backpage alley..but I..I rush not worrying whether the the small beggar kid would have his dinner.. I still don’t have my reservations for the swanky dinner place u see..i rush.. The multitude of people waiting ... the roads bumpy and sad... but how could I care.. I vote and my responsibility ends there... now I am free to blame remember whoever I want for whatever faults I let myself be bothered with... not one bit my responsibility

I still have to reach somewhere that I don’t know yet and I could not be bothered yet... make no mistake I wear my flag as proudly as any other Indian would... but as I rush..I hear someone call someone hurt.. but I move on...

As I rush I miss my nation calling out to me..bleeding.. calling out to me every time it gets cut ...don’t forget I still am wearing my flag as I pass with a deaf ear.... maybe the next 15th august I might hear..or maybe the next

A company was hiring new staff. One question in the written exam
was:
You are driving your car in a wild stormy night. You pass by a bus

NAGPUR-BHANDARA

the Indian Dental Association had organised a dental health care programme for the anganwadi healtcare workers.. i was asked whether i'd go for a week and lecture to these ppl ab8 taking care ab8 their teeth, thus i and a friend had to go to fringe villages close to nagpur-bhandara but with rains crashing down crazy the trip started on the wrong note
to make it worse i reached Nagpur on Tuesday after a 20 hour bus ride, 6 hours late and as such the first day lectures were postponed to a later date. i hoped things would ease out for me
but Mr Murphy was still in a benevolent mood , so the next day i had to lecture these 150 odd anganwadi ladies... and the slide projector refuses to cooperate ....somehow i managed to talk for 30 mins with out no visual aids...
the next day thankfully everything worked and i managed to talk for an hour without a hitch....
during the lecture i realized how the life out there in the villages is so many things that we take r for granted are prized out there
and as we were the for the dental awareness thing.. just realized that for a dentist these villagers had to travel at least 60kms...

somehow during the course of three days.. i developed a bond with the ppl who were helping me..harish, nagesh and atma kumar(pandit).. i was enamoured by pandit most of all... very straight guy from benaras out in mumbai to make a living...i was amazed to find innocence still alive...
on the last day we had to travel close to 160 kms away frm nagpur to lakhandur...3 hrs to and 3 hrs fro with a lecture of an hour and a half.. i was ready to leave for pune with all of them asking me and my friend to stay on and take care of the Nagpur leg too... i felt bad leaving but had to..
one week of crazy travel...loving and caring ppl all around... and two 20 hour bus ride.. and memories to remember... truly would remember the week for a lifetime-
life is not how many days we live... but how many days we make special for ourselves.. i had one special week

1. Never give me work in the morning. Always wait until 5:00 and then bring it to me. The challenge of a deadline is refreshing.
2. If it's really a 'rush job', run in and interrupt me every 10 minutes to inquire how it's going. That helps.
3. Always leave without telling anyone where your going. It gives me the chance to be creative when somebody asks me where you are.
4. If my arms are full of papers, boxes, books or supplies, don't open the door for me. I need to learn how to be more independent and do without any help, which is why I work here..
5. If you give me more than one job to do, don't tell me which is the priority. Let me guess. It builds management skills and my inate ability of mind reading.
6. Do your best to keep me late. I like the office and I really have nowhere to go and nothing else to do. My life is yours.
7. If a job pleases you, keep it a secret. Leaks like that could cost me a promotion.
8. If you don't like my work, tell everyone. I like my name to be popular in conversation.
9. If you have any special instructions for a job, don't write them down. In fact, save them until the job is almost done, or better yet until it is done, so I can learn repetitive perfection doing it your way.
10. Never introduce me to people you're with. When you refer to them later, my shrewd deductions will identify them.
11. Be nice to me only when the job I'm doing for you could really change your life.
12. Tell me all your little problems. No one else has any and it's nice to know someone else is less fortunate.

physics exam

The following concerns a question in a physics degree exam at the University of Copenhagen:

"Describe how to determine the height of a skyscraper with a barometer."

One student replied:"You tie a long piece of string to the neck of the barometer, then lower the barometer from the roof of the skyscraper to the ground. The length of the string plus the length of the barometer will equal the height of the building."

This highly original answer so incensed the examiner that the student was failed immediately. He appealed on the grounds that his answer was indisputably correct, and the university appointed an independent arbiter to decide the case.

The arbiter judged that the answer was indeed correct, but did not display any noticeable knowledge of physics. To resolve the problem it was decided to call the student in and allow him six minutes in which to provide a verbal answer which showed at least a minimal familiarity with the basic principles of physics.

For five minutes the student sat in silence, forehead creased in thought. The arbiter reminded him that time was running out, to which the student replied that he had several extremely relevant answers, but couldn't make up his mind which to use. On being advised to hurry up the student replied as follows:

"Firstly, you could take the barometer up to the roof of the skyscraper, drop it over the edge, and measure the time it takes to reach the ground. The height of the building can then be worked out from the formula H = 0.5g x t squared. But bad luck on the barometer.

"Or if the sun is shining you could measure the height of the barometer, then set it on end and measure the length of its shadow. Then you measure the length of the skyscraper's shadow, and thereafter it is a simple matter of proportional arithmetic to work uut the height of the skyscraper.

"But if you wanted to be highly scientific about it, you could tie a short piece of string to the barometer and swing it like a pendulum, first at ground level and then on the roof of the skyscraper. The height is worked out by the difference in the gravitational restoring force T = 2 pi sqrroot (l/g).

"Or if the skyscraper has an outside emergency staircase, it would be easier to walk up it and mark off the height of the skyscraper in barometer lengths, then add them up."If you merely wanted to be boring and orthodox about it, of course, you could use the barometer to measure the air pressure on the roof of the skyscraper and on the ground, and convert the difference in millibars into feet to give the height of the building.

But since we are constantly being exhorted to exercise independence of mind and apply scientific methods, undoubtedly the best way would be to knock on the janitor's door and say to him 'If you would like a nice new barometer, I will give you this one if you tell me the height of this skyscraper'.

REAL MADRID ARE THE CHAMPIONS

Final la liga game... as i write this real madrid just won the league after 4 years...cannot even express ma happiness... and if any1 has been followin the les merengues' season this year u'd know what i have been sayin... every single game they seem to have been knocked out just to come back... last game against zaragoza they seemed to have lost the title only for the last 20 seconds to change the whole spectre....

... even today they were a goal down and in a must win situation with barca up 3 goals... and as always madridistas delivered.. scorin three goals in the final 25 mins t win 3-1... capello delivers... fairy -tale ending for david beckham and roberto carlos... what better way to say goodbye... thank you both of yu.. especially beckham... cos his resurgence galvanized the whole team and they reached the title...it is his first title with madrid too... wish u culd stay further at the bernabeu...

As i said... we win the league from barca this year... next year who knows... but now lets celebrate and surrender to this sweet victory.....

SUN-DAY

Thank you lord for makin sundays.... slept like a log for most of the day... dunno what I'd do without Sundays

cartoon network was playing shrek... funny but love the ogre and the donkey..adorable the movie was....some of the animation movies are so profoundly entertaining....loved lion-king and it still is one of my favorite movies...nothing particular to do for the night an early dinner and back to sleep...aaahhh heaven....

interestin views with ignite and oliver on the concept of life... don't really know what my views are exactly... guess that is what we do as we live on, lead on..every step revealing something new that shapes our thought process so we move believing in something.... maybe right maybe wrong... the mysteries of life...dont think they'd be solved until we meet the one who created them

another week ends... getting ready for the battles lay ahead... hopin that sunday comes along sooner than later.... and then i get to do what i am gonna do now ...SLEEP....YIPPEEEE

Wanted to watch oceans 13 but somehow went in for jhoom... y'day.... first day last show... no clue how the movie wuld be... well this is what i thought about the movie

the first half does not make sense... the second does make sense a bit
lara dutta saved the movie for me.. man she is hot... p.zinta fizzles in front of her.. madam lara scores by leaps and bounds...
abhishek is OK... so is bobby deol...

guess who got the most whistles thruout the movie
SHEHNSHAH BACCHAN.. the soundtrack coupled with bacchan just about manages to move the movie forward... amitabh shows why the sun shall never set on him... even without a single dialogue... he raises the house every time he comes in

BOTTOM LINE: no story. lots of glitter, great soundtrack, hot lara... nothing much more than that.. and ya abhiskek's ring tone...loved it...
wont miss much if u miss this flick...

THE CIRCUS

Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to
buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between
the ticket counter and us. This family made a big impression on me.
There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could
tell they didn't have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive,
but they were clean. The children were well behaved, all of them
standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They
were excitedly jabbering about the clowns, elephants and other acts
they would see that night. One could sense they had never been to
the circus before. It promised to be a highlight of their young lives.

The father and mother were at the head of the pack standing proud

as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up
at him as if to say, "You're my knight in shining armour." He was
smiling and basking in pride, looking at her as if to reply, "You got that
right."
.
The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He

proudly responded, "Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and
two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus."
The ticket lady quoted the price.
The man's wife let go of his hand, her head dropped; the man's lip
began to quiver. The father leaned a little closer and asked, "How
much did you say?"
The ticket lady again quoted the price.
The man didn't have enough money. How was he supposed to turn
and tell his eight kids that he didn't have enough money to take them
to the circus?
.
Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand into his pocket,

pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. (We were not
wealthy in any sense of the word!) My father reached down, picked
up the bill, tapped the man on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me sir,
this fell out of your pocket."
.
The man knew what was going on. He wasn't begging for a handout

but certainly appreciated the help in a desperate, heartbreaking,
embarrassing situation. He looked straight into my dad's eyes, took
my dad's hand in both of his, squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and
with his lip quivering and a tear streaming down his cheek, he replied,
"Thank you, thank you, sir. This really means a lot to me and my
family."
.
My father and I went back to our car and drove home. We didn't go to

the circus that night, but we didn't go without.

A little boy is telling his Grandma how "everything" is going wrong.
School, family problems, severe health problems, etc.. Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks her grandson if he would like a snack, which of course he does.


"Here, have some cooking oil."
"Yuck" says the boy.

"How about a couple raw eggs? "
"Gross, Grandma!"

"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?"
"Grandma, those are all yucky!"

was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most
caring child. The winner was a four-year-old child, whose next-door

Run Through the Rain
She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have
been 6 years old, this beautiful brown haired, freckle-faced image of
innocence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over
the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the Earth it has no
time to flow down the spout.
We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the
Wal-Mart. We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature
messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I
get lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt
and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as
a child come pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my
day.
Her voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all
caught in. “Mom, let's run through the rain," she said.
What?" Mom asked.
“Let’s run through the rain!" She repeated.
"No honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit," Mom replied.
This young child waited about another minute and repeated: "Mom,
let's run through the rain."
"We'll get soaked if we do," Mom said.
"No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the
young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm.
“This morning when did I say we could run through the rain and not
get wet?"
"Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his
cancer, you said, 'If God can get us through this, he can get us
through anything!”
The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear
anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the
next few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about
what she would say.
Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might
even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a
young child's life. Time, when innocent trust can be nurtured and
bloom into faith. ”Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through
the rain. If God let's us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing,"
Mom said. Then off they ran.
We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the
cars and, yes, through the puddles. They held their shopping bags
over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were
followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way
to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.
Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions,
they can take away your money, and they can take away your health.
But no one can ever take away your precious memories. So, don't
forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories
every day!


To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under
